State of the Nation Address:Intellectus Consultancy Official Statement

The State of The Nation by the President addressing the various issues that hinder the progress of the nation and those that promote our development left many Kenyans with a bag of mixed feelings. It’s interesting to note that the president apologized to the PEV victims, something that made us realize that no past president had apologized to them yet. He even went on to set up a fund for retributive justice to the victims.

The president also made it his agenda to address corruption. The various projects that the government is handling are really something that Kenyans need to be excited about. They have the potential for transforming Kenya if handled by competent and people of integrity. We are talking about the SGR, the Galana-Kulalu Project, the City Security System, the Huduma  Centres among others. Many of them are on track and we believe that if corruption is heavily punished, even the ones which are having challenges might as well rejuvenate.

He acknowledged the existence of the same in high government offices. He went ahead to state that any state officer who had been mentioned in the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission report to step aside and pave way for further investigations. A good move. The spirit to fight corruption, a monster that has bedeviled Kenya since independence needs both words and action. Mr President, we need action. Let the law be extended to those state officers, including our governors who have been implicated, let it stretch and get hold of those Cabinet Secretaries and the Permanent Secretaries who have made it a habit to drain our coffers for their own benefit.

For Kenya to move forward, we need to ensure that we actually walk our talk. Mr. President you need to get hold of our economy, more subsidies and better prices for the farmers can enable us buy goods at a lower price. Many Kenyans are still living below a dollar a day. A while ago, if we all remember, you promised to ensure that you regulate the wages in the Civil Service, especially those who earn large salaries: what is the progress so far. These are some of the areas that Kenyans need action. Now.  We thank you for the will; we know you are able.
