TO HELL WITH KENYA AT 50 CELEBRATIONS!!-BUNDI M. HESBORN

A somewhat personal opinion has been burning in me and for a quite some time now I have kept it to myself fearing my critics will rant out loud of how pessimistic about patriotism I am. However I have deemed it better to write it out after coming to the realization that am not the only one in Jerusalem, a couple of my close associates have expressed the same sentiments making me believe it’s something to write home about!
It’s about the Kenya at 50 celebrations, me thinks we have absolutely little or no reason to celebrate on this! Why do I say so? Take for instance if I take a Nairobi bound Transline bus from Kisii travelling to Nairobi for the first time! Upon reaching the Mahi Mahiu junction, the driver being a new comer or a sadist on this route changes direction and follows the Naivasha highways hurriedly speeds off with clear indications that the next destinations will be Naivasha, Nakuru, Kericho then take Ng’oina road back to Nyamira County where we begun! You tell me do I have reason to keep my expectations about the city any more when I very well know I will not get there? I will be the most stupid villager in that bus if I do so? Some will say ‘What Crap’ alright, patriotically all am saying is what reason does a country going backwards democratically has to celebrate 50 years of independency? I can only agree champions of this celebration if you promise me that 10 years from now we come to a celebration dubbed ‘40 years of retraction to pre-independency’ because that’s where we are headed!
Do you by any mistake think the Media with all its current predicaments want to celebrate 50 years of independency when the government is up in arms to gag it! We all know the media’s contribution towards freedom that we have now all from the times of Lenard Mambo Mbotela and KBC with its famous news opening remarks; ‘Rais Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi..’ Do you think NGO’s have a reason to celebrate when Parliament has forsworn an oath to amputate it completely just because it has stood for only justice, justice and nothing else but justice! How many Kenyans do you think will lose their jobs when funding to NGO’s is stopped? Do think this Kenyans have reason to gather for these celebrations? How many Women and children will in marginalized areas will suffer when Humanitarian assistance from NGO’s stop flowing to such areas because the government feels their quest for justice is taking away some sleep from them?
If J.M Kariuki woke from his grave right now, do you think he will honor an invitation to the celebrations when his famous clause of a nation of 10 millionaires and 100 million beggars is deeply rooted and still growing each day? What reason have we to celebrate the fruits of a people we are yet to honor! Am talking of the people who gave up their lives for a democratic and free society! The delicacy of a stew cannot be honored minus honoring the chef behind the cookery! Woe unto a child that shows off her new underwear to her colleagues in school but disobeys the mother that bought it.
Do you think the over 20,000 civil servants the government intends to lay off have the little of reasons to celebrate 50 year of independency? What is in a celebration marking 50 years of independency when one very well knows all the next years will be full of darkness upon retrenchment from a government that wants you to celebrate with it? In a month one Member of Parliament takes home what 100 civil servants would take home! But the government repugnantly wants to sacrifice those who take home the least instead of taking the least from those who take home the most and equitably maintain former! I guess this should take us back into the Holy book in 2 Samwel chapters 12 which reads “The LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, 3 but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.4 “Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.”5 David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this must die! 6 He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.”7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! In a nation where the ruler and her cronies want to squeeze the last pint of blood out of the mul-nutritioned to feed the healthy I see absolutely no reason to celebrate! These celebrations are better left for the ruling dynasties because what we have are just rich men’s products packaged in cheap loveable packages so we the poor can play rubber stamp for what is not meant for us! They will soon take it away and make it grow more to their best interest after 10 years they will bring it back in another different package titled 60 years of independency. As for me and my house the celebration is neither today nor tomorrow!
