Muthama: An Analogue, Illiterate Horse And Impediment To Machakos Development- Dennis Kabutha

Last week Machakos county and Kenya at large was treated to a rare spectacle; that of a senator who is reluctant to see his county develop. While everyone was green with envy at the look of what Machakos will become in a few years, the senator of the same county was busy in the corridors of the high court trying to block the development of the only project of its kind.
Having chosen to oppose the project it was not a surprise that the senator snubbed the ground breaking event of the mega project. No doubt he would become do I say a disgrace or the laughing stock of the “village”. Speaker after speaker admonished the senator for his unbecoming behaviour.  Realising he is fighting a lone battle that is not only insensitive and manifest nonsense, the rogue senator would later turn to side shows and tantrums. First it was an interview on prime time news where he ‘sensationally’ claimed that his life was in danger, while asked who would want to kill him and why; he said the top leadership of the country because of his political stand on matters concerning the ICC. It begs the questions, how is that related to the Machakos issue? If he is convinced that he is so influential, why are there many politicians, more powerful than him who share the same opinion with him still around. If that was the case intellectuals like James Orengo wouldn’t be walking around free. Influential people like Raila Odinga would have been done away with. These are people with a great influence on the people and they are strongly opposed to the duo leading the nation despite indictment by the ICC. Yet who is Muthama in national politics to claim that someone would want to kill him because of his stand?
As if that wasn’t enough this man Muthama now threatens he’ll sue the pragmatic and most respected governor for defamation. It is crystal clear to all and sundry, Muthama does not have the moral authority to initiate litigation against any one for of all other things defamation!Let’s sample Muthama’s moves for the last couple of months. To begin with Muthama strongly opposed the appointment of Kumar Dhar as Minister for Industrialisation in,Machakos because he’s Asian. Apparently the senator expressed his dislike for Asians, speaking to a congregation. When ordered to appear in court by the NCIC he continued doing what he does best. Whining and mongering hatred. Muthama was mentioned by the KNHCR to be propagating hatred alongside his ally former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile. Muthama has said so much that may not have been reported by the media for decency’s and security’s sake but fortunately or unfortunately the Kenyan blogosphere knows no secret in the name of decency. We all know that it was Muthama who was campaigning by inciting tribes against others a move that I believe was not in the spirit of Raila Odinga’s campaign and certainly presidency had he been able to clinch it. I actually believe Raila’s camp lost some votes every time Muthama spoke. Now Muthama claims he’s opposed to the Machakos development project because the governor has “dished” out free land to investors, does he have better plans at least for the land that he claims is being dished out? Mr Muthama has also claimed time and again that they (CORD) are dealing with thieves and criminals who should be rotting in jail, no one has ever brought him to account, neither has he sued in court even before the so-called thieves came to power. If he has been busy defaming others in the name of talking the truth, why isn’t he comfortable when his mask is being pulled back. Isn’t his case worse than that of the kettle calling the pot black? Certainly, Muthama knows no decorum nor moderation. I need not mention Muthama’s literacy, comparing him with Dr Alfred Mutua would be insulting the governor.
From the pre-election period to date, one needs no more evidence to prove that Muthama is the click of analogue and retrogressive octogenarians that we no longer need. He’s behaving as if we are still in the KANU regime in as much as he is nowhere near power. Unlike Dr. Alfred Mutua, he totally lacks understanding in PR. He doesn’t know that political affiliations don’t matter in issues of development otherwise the president would not have attended the event. Muthama should know that pointless turf wars are not going to helpMachakosin anyway. Muthama should also tell us what his problem was; does he feel threatened by the youthful and inspiring governor or is it his hate for the president that made him strongly oppose a grand development project not in Nyeri or Bomet, but in his own county. Hasn’t he proved that he did not deserve the honour of serving as senator? By mongering hate and ignoring summons, hasn’t he become a disgrace to the upper house? Muthama should let Mutua go on with his good work;I’m personally waiting to see the first and only formula one track in Africa among other things.

If an election was held today in Machakos and Muthama won, I would be convinced that the problem is the electorate. Meanwhile if all governors were like Mutua’s or atleast like Nairobi’s Kidero or Murang’a’s Mwangi we would reduce Vision 2030 to vision 2020 but if all senators were like one Muthama, let’s not even imagine!
