Sex for Money Or Money for Sex: Not A UoN Thing!Steve Biko

Men ultimately PAY for sex in whatever FORM whether DIRECTLY or INDIRECTLY...cold hard cash or outings and gifts...call it courtship or dating in the end everything costs MONEY...ever since the invention of Ceasers coin. This Sad but true state of affairs became responsible for the world's oldest profession, PROSTITUTION. You can agree or disagree, DISSENT is as much valid as APPROVAL. But before you bring out the torches and burn my sentiments, When was the last time you enjoyed anything "GOOD" for free. This Game has been played for centuries. The advent of commerce at the turn of the century came up with what is called the "BARTER TRADE"..Simply "the exchange of goods and services"..Modern relationships are nothing short of "sexual barter trades"...you "GIVE" in order to "RECEIVE”,the truth is that NOTHING IS FOR FREE. The trick, to get by this ugly truth is to GLORIFY and JUSTIFY our designations, accept our places and play our role in upgrading societal morals.
The ladies in black have always perfected the act of making the Koinange Street the most popular in the nation. They well know of men in black who will always come for the young ladies (young, independent, and fresh bloods in the University of Nairobi). In my tenure as the ORGANIZING SECRETARY, I made great efforts to clean and protect the spirit of comradeship by empowering the cooperates and great personalities as well as the Nairobi-county women representative, Hon Rachael Shebesh to mobilize our ladies in protecting their dignity and upgrading their roles in uplifting the societal norms.
Any young leader in this nation have a task to fight SEXUAL IMMORALITIES amongst the youth, and specifically in the institutes of higher education. The University of Nairobi is no exception. I live to see the name STEVE BIKO in the SONU AND the UNIVERSITY books of records as the most pragmatic student leader to stand tall, and taller than then the word tall itself int he fight against sexual immorality.
LONG LIVE SONU, LONG LIVE UoN,
Steve Biko
Secretary General Aspirant, SONU 2014/15

Who is Maina Dubois Maina?SONUDECIDES2014

Elections are here again with us and we not only need exercise our inalienable right of democratically electing leaders of our choice but also be seen to do so in a way that our wishes and aspiration, as the students of this premier institution of learning, will be seen to reflect. I take keen note of the fact that we all are pregnant with huge expectations.
It is during this electioneering period that the fate of over 60,000 students , for the next 12 months, will be determined .Whether those freshmen we recently inducted will have a sober intellectual climate to realize selves while in this university; whether they live to be men and women  of academic might and character ;or even whether the students will have to wade in anguish as they fight to have their marks recorded in their student portals ; I keenly observe; will hugely be determined by the outcome of these polls.
I am Dubois Maina  ,an undergraduate scholar in the school of Economics ,set to finalize with my level 2 comes this August .I am also a student leader serving in the student union as a member of the legislative arm of the student body. I am in the race for the position of the Organizing Secretary in this year’s polls and intend to liaise with able and competent leaders to ascend into office and continue with my advocacy for the students’ rights and welfare.
I must admit that serving in the union has not been a ride in the park. We are coming from a challenging and a very uncertain past in the history of student leadership. Many have been the times students has had to fight for themselves when one of their own succumbed to external forces; be it death ,illness ,financial misery after HELB reluctantantly disburse the loans or even unhygienic living conditions in our halls of residences. No one can forget the hassles we have been forced to go through just to secure a place of residence in our halls. I however remain a staunch believer in the school of thoughts that advocate for able and pragmatic leadership because with this, I am deeply convicted that there not even a single challenge facing our comrades that cannot be tackled amicably. The biggest challenges that have constantly riddled our union are lack of unity of purpose as well as selfishness. Leaders whom we have previously entrusted with various dockets have thrown our concerns under their beds and instead pursued divergent agendas which has done little to add salvo to our union.
In the same breath I commend the few who served in the current student body to ensure that at those critical moments of our dire needs; they gave a shoulder for us to lean on and a listening ear.
My candidature is inspired by the desire to create an involving and engaging environment for my fellow students so as to attain their maximum potential while in this university. This is driven by my realization of the power of information in building a strong and enabling university atmosphere for my fellow students. As Albert Einstein once remarked:”An informed society is an empowered society” I want to empower my comrades with information; information that our comrades never have the chance to get while in lecture theatres or library facilities. Through the power that will be vested on me; I will strive to use the resources availed to my docket to champion for this course by ensuring students get to learn about internships and employment opportunities; the business and investment opportunities;exchange, bursary and scholarship opportunities among many others ;as and when they are available. This will give my students an upper hand in grabbing the numerous opportunities available within and outside this City. I also intend to bring on board, talented comrades to be involved in numerous publications under my docket.
In summary, I will closely liaise with other like-minded student leaders to provide an opportunity for all comrades to remain extra-competitive and well-armed to harness their untapped potential and make the best out of this compelling city.
I also would like to take this early opportunity to urge all comrades to be mindful of one another despite the difference in our political bearing.
Dubois Maina.

GPO’s Assassination: Statement From University Students

We, friends and colleagues of George Paul Oulu who was yesterday slain in cold blood gather here today with deep sorrow to mourn the passing of a national hero. Oulu, who was fondly referred to by all as G.P.O was a young man who lived and breathed with a fierce passion for his country. G.P.O tirelessly defended the rights of those denied justice, gave a voice to the voiceless and had big dreams and great plans for the future of this country. His life rhythm moved to the same heartbeat and pulse as that of the continent’s.
His death cannot be looked at as a random act of lawlessness, we have reason to believe his life was taken to silence him from speaking out on the lawless extra-judicial killings that have occurred and still occur in the country. We take issue with the spin that has been taken, portraying him as a Mungiki operative as a means to justify his death. His death too cannot be seen in isolation from the events that have been taking place in the country. It is part of the general impunity that has blanketed the country that has seen lives taken without recourse to justice and that has seen the police assault and harasses patriotic citizens coming out to speak on vital issues of governance.
We are now putting the government on notice. We have watched the trends that it slowly sliding to, leading the country down the slippery slope as it desperately clings on to a fragile power that it will go to evil lengths to maintain. We demand that investigations be conducted immediately and the perpetrators be brought conclusively to book, whether they be state operators or not. This government must realize that fear will never keep those striving for a better Kenya down and the collective will of the people will always prevail. It is such notorious practices as these that spark off revolutions against oppressive powers.
If nothing else, we hope G.P.O’s death serves as a wake up call to the citizens of this great nation. We cannot afford to keep our noses out of our governance and act as if we are living in islands of peace and bliss when in truth, we are surrounded by fear, misery, impunity, insecurity and hunger of whose walls we are enchained within. Let us all speak out with one voice and condemn the death of Oulu and Kingara. Let us realize that if we remain silent, we are only barricading ourselves into walls where we can be easily reached and done away with similarly, one by one. As in Nazi Germany, they came for people group by group, first the Catholics, then the Protestants, then the trade unionists until there was no one left to speak out for the Jews. Let us not get to the point here where eventually there will be no one left to stand up for us when push comes to shove.
G.P.O, may your heart rest in eternal peace, you will be avenged.

A Lesson on Homosexuality-Chad Bironga, Sch of Economics,UoN

Morality is a vast phenomenon that can be argued from a personal viewpoint (ethical egoism & utilitarianism), from one society to another (relativism) and depending one's ability to be tolerant of the society around you. However, the homosexual bug is a multipronged thorn that has pricked into many a societies' moral subscription.

Many advocates for the societal acceptance and embracing of homosexuality have always claimed that homosexuality is genetically predetermined. While this is a dubious scientific claim, let’s grant for the sake of argument that people are genetically disposed to certain behaviors, including homosexuality. The problem is that genetic disposition has zero implications for the morality of a behavior. I am not a specialist in genetics and sex development and as such this argument is not proven.

However, to argue out my stand, let's take these three other classes of 'abnormal' sexual builds - necrophilia, zoophilia and paedophilia. If a homosexual claims he was born that way, these three classes can also lay the same claim. Consequently, then, we might be convinced that paedophiles are born with a predisposition towards sex with children, necrophildds turned on at the site of corpses and zoophiles just can't resist animals. But few would want to claim that therefore it was moral, right, and good. How moral is an adult having sex with an underdeveloped human being? Man having sex with animals? The dead? Don't these people need to be accepted in society too, based on the yardstick being used by the homosexual community as armoury?

Alcoholics might be born with a predisposition to drink, but the Alcoholics Anonymous has never proclaimed alcoholism to be a moral activity on these grounds.

Maybe, I'm just being too shallow. Someone educate me.

Advice to SONU Aspirants- Chad Bironga Makori, Sch of Economics, UoN

SONU. Once upon a time it was a very vibrant student body that ombudsmanned student rights. But not any more. The organization has been defiled by adversarial 'students' and almost at its death knell. It's been turned into a runway for showcasing flamboyance, extravagance, fraud and embezzlement skills all at the expense of the student, who's been left estranged. Majority of the students hail from outside Nairobi and its environs and of these most come from poor backgrounds. However, the beleaguered body no longer fights for its members some of whom have turned to immoral ways to eke out and sustain a livelihood within the expensive city lifestyle - that's a story for another day.

I know most of those leaders fattening from the SONU coffers won't agree with this but my 2 years in UON has taught me otherwise. SONU is a money laundering scam. Its rot starts from the campaign and election period. 'Washmentation' is common vocabulary paying credence to Mark Twain's quote: If voting counted, they wouldn't let us do it. Majority, if not all, of the student leaders buy their way to power or are elevated to power being the Administration's right hand men. With such 'famished' tigers at the helm, there is nothing like student activism or fighting for 'our rights'. What SONU does is offer a platform for devouring the resources that students fund for through their own subscription money. The same rot is recycled time and time again.
For example, UON has never had a freshers bash, cultural & entertainment event, a properly student-organised career talk (most of those held are never pushed for by the student leaders). Mr & Ms UON is never a competitive process - winning depends on how deep your fingers can delve into your pocket. Poor students have never benefitted from the students bursary - it is instead used to oil goons hands and replenish the leaders' bank accounts. The so called student leaders bask in the glory of the Accommodation crisis by liaising with custodians to rent out rooms at exorbitant and exploitative prices. Sometime last year when KTN hosted an event at The Graduation Square, the so-called student leaders and their night-club goons stirred fracas in an ugly on-air mêlèe evicting them from the school precinct for having not paid them.

Quoting one comrade Colin Albert, aside from the old guards who are repetitively vying for higher posts, the new entrants are also a mere toothless "impotent bunch" that take a go for 'our time to eat' burying their empty rhetorical promises in the eerie abyss of oblivion. SONU is run by a clique of unproductive politicians who have never done anything meaningful within their previous SONU positions but still have the indifference to go back to comrades and seek another term in a higher office. If you cannot make profit out of a single talent awarded to you, how do you claim that you would make money grow on trees if awarded another?

These guys are simply thieves in the pipeline. The hood rat thieves who keep on adding some fat around their waist with every step upon the ladder.

SONU is dead my friends, and that is a free tip to whoever cares. It's left for the hungry gluttons who want to feed more and fill their insatiable appetite for sex and money. Now that I mentioned sex and got your tongues wagging, y'all guys all know what goes down during those SONU retreats. It never gets printed in the COMRADES MAGAZINE 'coz it's well within the public domain so why waste the space?
My free advice to the  youngsters who think that SONU has some hope to offer for them in the near future, that's a dream in the pipe. SONU will never make you a leader. Neither will SONU make your dreams come true. If you are hungry or you are the glutton with insatiable appetite for sex and petty cash, then SONU is the right place for you! Get into into. No one will stop you. You will meet goons and hooligans of your own kind and before you know it you will be well lost within the sea, And LOST, I mean it.
You will be inclined towards your tribal affiliation. Soon we'll be hearing of you being in Jubilee or CORD.

If the body were disbanded, majority of the students won't even notice it happened because SONU doesn't champion student rights

We Want The Full Waki List!-Onguso Ochengo,Law scholar,UoN

Kenyan politics is like a torn picture and here we piece up for your how it looks. You have of heard the outcry of Aden Duale about the Waki list. First, know that jubilee is composed of the Former PNU generals-inner circle and ODM lieutenants. The fact that Uhuru and Muthaura were very close with the president i only invite a fool to think that Kibaki received the Waki list and hid it under Lucy's Pillow without reading the names contained therein. What Kibaki knew, Uhuru and Muthaura Knew. Therefore, the Uhuru camp knows the names in the Waki list, so does Aden Duale. why then shout for the making public of the list? Someone very senior in CORD must be the target. Just the mere presence of the name in the list is reason enough to shut some 'loud-mouths' from the opposition camp. Could it be Raila? The selective Ocampo talk that there was zero talk on Kibaki involvement yet no talk about Raila's participation may be an indication of his presence in the Waki list and he may be the target and to put ICC to task as to his exclusion. No sooner had Ocampo mentioned the Diplomat's pressure than news of a witness withdrawing by swearing an affidavit to the effect hit the news rooms. This was a witness against Ruto. Ruto's camp has been alleging fixers from the then PNU camp now absorbed to the Uhuru camp. let us give Ruto a benefit of doubt. Therefore, the witnesses are still under the pull-string of the Uhuru camp and can yield to orders from the masters. Is it that the withdrawal was meant to corroborate the inducement by US-AID with Ocampo's allegation of Diplomat Pressure with the motive to support the Ruto case of conspiracy to lock him out of Kenyan politics through the ICC process? If, Yes, the Ruto case will soon be an egg shell as Uhuru's for the piper tunes to the piper-payer's pleasure. The US is the first suspect in the Diplomat pressure saga and they were given away by the 'Choices have consequences' cliche. The US promised essential contacts approach and Obama shunned his home during his Africa trip. Prof Nying'uro used to say that 'the president of a superpower (read Obama) cannot shake hands with an ICC suspect (read Kenyatta 2)!" Now the US president has invited Uhuru to the US as one of the 47 Africa head of States. No sooner had the announcement made than Ocampo came with his revelation. Is it, therefore, that the US knows the Uhuru case was a fix-strategy gone sour and the case bound to fail hence a sudden U-turn in inviting Uhuru so that they may not be ashamed of flopped Uhuru case and to have a standing that they were contacting Uhuru even before the case flopped? Or is it still US strategy to finish Jubilee by letting one go-Uhuru and locking the other-Ruto? You can say the Uhuru case is flopping and it will only take the effeorts of UHURUs camp for Uhuru's case to read either 'DISMISSED' or 'INNOCENT'...Uhuru has dealt with the ICC case politically for it was a case of International politics while Ruto has dealt with it legally yet it has nothing to do with the law. The process that took the duo to the hague is Political and the end must be Political; so play politics Mr. Ruto and remember the father of Politics 101-Machiavelli when he said,'he who sacrifices what has to be done for what ought to be done necessarily comes to grief!" Do what has to be done but you must learn the game from Uhurus camp...and the withdrawal of witness 323 is a smart move!
