Having acquired physical disability at the age of 14yrs
& confined to a wheelchair it took jst a few yrs to fully adapt into the
disability life especially after doing my high school education in a special
school. While in there I realized how secluded the disables were from the
mainstream society & experienced firsthand the real demonstration of
discrimination on the ground of disability right after stepping outside the
gates of that school. This sparked in me a huge interest in advocating for the
rights of the disabled & our inclusion into the mainstream society. This
interest motivated me to work hard which saw me being admitted into UoN law
school. Having been so outspoken on the unfriendliness of the UoN's
infrastructure to the physically disabled the Dean of Students recommended my
appointment into the disability mainstreaming committee of the CHSS to
represent students with disability. Through the efforts of this group, my
personal efforts & that of other likeminded comrades, student leaders &
lecturers, we lobbied for the creation of an executive post to represent the
needs of students with disability in UoN. I have never been so sure about my
calling in this life than I am about being an advocate for disabled persons'
rights & I feel that there is no other better place to start this worthy
cause than in the premier institution of higher learning, the UoN. This is why
I humbly registered my gallant entry into the race for "Special Needs
Secretary" SONU.
